BFIG 2015: Omnibus

Omnibus 1

Allow me to preface this by saying I am now a Kickstarter backer of this game, and I had the rare opportunity to do it right in front of the developers. It was also the only game I went back to play again. Omnibus is pure fun in the dumbest, best way possible. Styled as a PlayStation One game, you take control of one of four buses that will soon be flying through the air as you desperately try to keep them from falling off the map.

Each bus has its unique handling, though developer Buddy Cops told me not to pick Sir Bus because he sucked. I selected Sir Bus and was on my way. It is important to note that these busses have no brakes, and become faster as the match goes on. I also learned that turning any more than about 45 degrees with Sir Bus caused me to barrel roll out of control faster than you can say “Do a barrel roll!”, with the other buses doing the same at more friendly angles. It takes just a few minutes to get used to, then it’s just a matter of using it to your advantage.

All of our playtime was dedicated to split screen versus, though we saw that in addition to other multiplayer modes, there will be a single player campaign dedicated to the busses. While I believe there is a lot of opportunity for a funny single player experience, multiplayer is where it’s at. The pure chaos of ramming into each other as you try desperately to maintain control of your own bus is perfect for parties or just a group of friends wanting to play something that you couldn’t possibly get mad at.

Omnibus 2

If you want to give the game a try, you can download a demo similar to what we played here and if you like that, support their Kickstarter campaign in its final days. The game is set to be launch on PC/Linux/Mac Make sure to check out the rest of our BFIG coverage and, as always, keep it here on ThoseGamingNerds.
